Since it’s inception in 1983, the Sunday Lunch Program has impacted the lives of tens of thousands of adults and children. The goal of the program is to provide a large nutritious bag lunch to families in need, every Sunday. Currently, we provide an average of 750 bag lunches every week and over fifty percent of the people that receive the healthy lunches are under 12 years of age.
At 12:00pm, the lunches are finished being prepared and ready to be distributed to local families in need. The line outside will form down the street, and hundreds of lunches will be ready for distribution. Nelson, the program manager, and the students from Christian Brothers join the people in the hallway and personally meet and greet every person. |

The Sunday Lunch Program has become a Sunday ritual where under served families and volunteers come together one day a week and share in the fellowship of a decent meal.

Like the rest of SFBFS’ programs, the Sunday Lunch could not operate without the generous support of dedicated volunteers. Faculty and students from Christian Brothers High School have been renowned supporters of the Sunday Lunch Program, accounting for over twenty motivated volunteers each week. In total, over forty volunteers are needed each week to help prepare and distribute lunches. The preparation of the lunches start as early as 8:00am. This is when an orderly volunteer crew forms an assembly line, each doing a separate preparatory task to help make the lunches. Everyone plays a key role in the production and handing out of the lunches. Some volunteers prepare sandwiches, which involves putting together peanut butter and jelly or various lunch meats that are available, slicing bulk meats and cheese with large deli slicers, and opening hundreds of cans of tuna. Other volunteers perform tasks such as sorting through bins of fruit, juices, pudding, energy bars, etc.
