The Mother-Baby Program started in 1992 with the idea of offering parents (often times single) a safe and supportive place to turn to during hard times. Now, fifteen years later, the program is offered at two different sites in Sacramento impacting over four hundred parents and their babies each month. Many of the parents that come to our doors are lacking the resources and/or the education to properly take care of their babies. Often times, mothers are escaping an unhealthy and abusive situation, and don’t have friends or family to rely on for support and guidance. It is our goal to help guide and empower mothers to give their babies a bright and healthy future.

Support and Education are keys to sustain healthy families and reduce the incidence of child abuse and neglect. With this in mind, parents are required to attend at least one Family Life Workshop/Parent Education Class each month in order to receive services. Between 8-10 classes per month are offered at each site. Family Life Workshop curriculum includes but is not limited to the following: parenting support and education groups, money management, health education, self-esteem development and empowerment, community resources, proper hygiene, domestic violence and sexual assault risk reduction and education, and much more.

Parents that attend the classes are given vital childcare supplies such as diapers, formula, baby food, bottles, toiletries, baby clothing, toys, etc. Aside from the classes, parents are mentored and given internal referrals to other SFBFS programs and external referrals for services SFBFS can not provide. |

Like the rest of SFBFS Programs, the Mother Baby Program is made possible by the generous support of individuals and businesses in our community through donations and/or volunteering. It is this support that makes our work possible and gives mothers and their babies a chance to improve their lives in an otherwise overwhelming situation.
