The Clothes Closet is an example of an enormously practical service rendered with a tiny budget. Over 450,000 articles of clothing are distributed each year free of charge. However, there is very little glorification that goes along with it. Certainly it would be difficult to receive funding for a Clothes Closet. But just watching the people in our food lines convinced us there was a great need for one. Many residents were without coats on cold winter days. Children wore ill-fitted pants and walked with holes in their shoes, while their mothers tried to dress up shabby outfits with a color scarf or belt. Many looked as if they had given up. Their stained, tattered clothing advertised despair.

What do we do?

SFBFS provides free clothing to the poor, the needy and the disadvantaged throughout the Sacramento community.

Who are we?

We includes you and me. We are volunteers. We donate a day, a part of a day or even a shift, to help others. Some of us collect donated articles of clothing or other items; others come in to SFBFS store to meet and serve our public; some stock, sort, do desk work, answer questions, and interact with those we serve. Our greatest gifts are love, devotion and a commitment to giving. Some give with a smile. Others give a few hours of time, money, goods or services. We are all needed. WE make it happen.

Many Hands Make Light Work

Your help and assistance make the load a bit lighter. Help us in the best way you can. We have created a flexible set of options. We appreciate the gift of time, the gift of money, the gift of love -- join us and share our bounty!

How can you help?
We are always in need of quality clothing -- especially men's clothes and shoes. There is also a great need for clothing for our youngsters, ages one to four. We accept all quality clothing.
